In the Beginning

Irrigator Tech – What is this Irrigator Tech? Let me tell you. A man named Richard Daigle had a dream to bring the Green Industry to a standard that would surpass the level our business was guided by. Richard knew the Green Industry would need to be higher tech to meet the demands and needs of the people, so he set out to create the little alligator and a school of learning called "Irrigator Tech." Richard knew he couldn't do this alone and alone he is not. Joining him to achieve the dream is Marcie Daigle. Everyone is acquainted with the saying, "Behind every successful man is a good woman." This quotation isn't accurate in this case because Marcie is at Richard's side, not behind him and has as big a part of the dream as Richard. For us the pupil, they brought together a large ensemble of experts, products and people with the knowledge to help us learn and have the tools to make our jobs second to none.

The first year was a little slow but Irrigator Tech kept building and adding classes and products that bring us up to today. Each year Irrigator Tech has an Annual Trade Show & Burger Bash so they can thank each and every one of us that had joined them with the dream. This year was the 3rd Annual Trade Show & Burger Bash and without saying was the best show yet. All of the product Reps were there and up in the class room s were mini seminars. Next year make sure you visit the seminars because just when you think you have learned all you can about a subject, you find out that either something new has been added or you missed something covered before. This bash had new and exciting things around every corner.

I can't close without something said about the great DAIGLE SLAM DUNK. Yes people, Richard did it again. The sacrifice and humility of it all. Several times Richard was committed to the depths of the watery cave. He wasn't satisfied doing it alone. He made it a family affair. He committed his own daughter, McKenna, to the embarrassment of the water. Oh, I'm sure he will pay dearly for that one. In closing, let's give Richard, Marcie, and all the staff of Irrigator Tech a big hand of gratitude for the hard work and good time that was given to all of us. Until next year, make Irrigator Tech proud of you as much as we are of them.

The Benefits of Education
By Irrigator Technical Training School

Education is the cornerstone of any profession. From accountants to zoologists, doctors, lawyers, electricians and contractors, many industries demand continuing education. In our industry, even though contractors get a C-27 once and renew it every year, this still doesn't put them at top of their game. If they have not had certification or continuing education classes the gauge of their knowledge is unknown. However, more and more, our industry is embracing educational programs realizing the value it brings to the Green professions.

Professional organizations, homeowner associations (HOA's), state and county departments, municipalities, public agencies and large and small contractors alike are seeing the benefits of offering continuing education to their employees. Developing the technical skills and overall knowledge of their staff gives them an advantage in the marketplace, provides better customer service and ultimately adds to the bottom line.

One company that realizes the benefits of continuing education is CLS Landscape Management Inc., of Chino, California. CLS is a full service landscape management and grounds maintenance provider that proudly claims its irrigation staff as Certified Irrigation Technicians. CLS founder and CEO, Kevin Davis, firmly believes in hiring and retaining competent people. The company's commitment to education is one of the factors driving its success. CLS sends its technicians to Irrigator Technical Training School.

Irrigator Tech is a professional training organization dedicated to "Raising Professionalism in the Green Industry" through quality hands-on education, training and services. Their mission is to assist the industry in achieving a higher level of professionalism. Headquartered in Chino, California, they operate a full-featured training facility offering the latest, up to date courses covering all aspects of irrigation maintenance and troubleshooting, controller programming, water management, soldering & brazing, CPR & first aid, driver safety, and power equipment use and safety.

Irrigator Tech provides a forum for hands on, in-class training toward industry wide recognized certification. Irrigator Tech is manufacturer neutral providing unbiased trade based education to all students with equal respect. Many landscape companies have discovered that networking with Irrigator Tech and supporting classes provides avenues for new customer bases or renewing old ones. Supporting classes demonstrates to the students and members that the industry values their interests, concerns and goals.

With all the benefits that continuing education provides it's a win-win-win situation for the industry, landscape companies and students. The more the industry supports education, the more it creates opportunities for career advancement, challenge and recognition for its workforce. It's more than promoting professionalism and sharpening skills, it's giving confidence, respect and meaning to someone's career and an opportunity for a better life. Please do more to promote education in the Green Industry - everyone benefits!
